Patricia Phylis Gushta (nee Marko)
May 6, 1938 - September 7, 2023
With deep sadness the family announces the passing of Pat on Thursday, September 7, 2023, aged 85 years of Libau, MB, beloved wife of the late Victor Gushta.
She was the loving and devoted mother to her son Brad Helwer (Barb) and daughter Judy Laing (Alan); sister to Sharon Jackson (Brian) and Marion Marko (Michael); Baba to four grandchildren; Michelle Cianflone (Tony), David Helwer (Chantel), Philip Helwer and Conner Helwer; four great-grandchildren, Sammy Cianflone, Mateo Cianflone, Ben Helwer and Matt Helwer. She was predeceased by her ex-husband Harvey Helwer; parents Jean and Metro Marko; sister Virginia Drialich and brother-in-law Lawrence Drialich.
Pat grew up on her parent’s farm in Poplar Park. This is where she learned the love of cooking, gardening, canning and baking. Whenever you went to visit, she would send you home with her homemade perogies, pickles, jams, etc. Her granddaughter Michelle once commented that if there was ever an apocalypse she would go live with Baba as she had cupboards of preserves and freezers of food for them to survive for years.
Pat was an active member in her community, and she devoted much of her time and energy to the Libau Community Club, where she volunteered in various roles.
Her favorite past-time was listening to Ukrainian music or knitting while watching curling in the winter and baseball in the summer on TV.
Pat will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.
Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Libau East Cemetery, Libau MB.
