Paul George Wieringa Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul George Wieringa, who departed with his family at his side at Selkirk Regional Health Centre on April 23, 2026. Paul was born on September 12, 1948, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to George and Virginia Wieringa.
Paul was a loving husband to Darlene, a devoted father to Cory (Karen) and Justin (Nicole) and a proud gramps to Emily, Hailey, Ben and Austin who meant the world to him. They will forever cherish the many memories made with Paul throughout the years, the most recent being the week spent together in one of Paul’s favorite places, Puerto Vallarta.
Also left to remember Paul are his sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces as well as many close friends.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, his brother Roger, and his brother-in-law Ron. We take comfort in knowing they have been reunited.
His career was a source of pride for Paul. It included four years in the American Navy, first aboard the USS Wasp for two years followed by two years as a firefighter in Bermuda. This inspired the next step on his career path as a firefighter for the Winnipeg Airports Authority where he worked for over 30 years before retiring in 2004.
Paul had a gift for finding joy in life’s simplest moments, especially when surrounded by family and friends. Over the years, he created countless cherished memories and shared an abundance of laughter in the places he loved most: Puerto Vallarta, Lac du Bonnet, Red Rock Lake, camping and his and Darlene’s home in St. Andrews. Anyone who knew Paul will always remember those moments, filled with adventure, warmth, and the special spark he brought to being with family and friends. No doubt there will be many stories to tell about the adventures they shared.
Some of the most recent precious memories are of being in Puerto Vallarta this winter where Paul and Darlene were able to enjoy every day simple things: going for dinners, people watching at the Vayan Cafe, watching the sun set, enjoying margaritas, listening to Mariachis, and especially enjoying every single moment when his family were there for Spring Break. Having his family there was a highlight for Paul and he couldn’t have asked for more!
Although his stay was short, the family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion.
At Paul’s request, no formal service will be held, and a private celebration of life and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba in Paul’s memory.
“Sadly missed along life’s way, quietly remembered every day…
No longer in our life to share, but in our hearts you’re always there.”
