Percy Freeman Obituary
Percy Allan Freeman
Percy Allan Freeman born February 26, 1948, passed away peacefully May 22, 2026, with his forever devoted wife and daughter by his side after battling Parkinson’s Disease.
Percy was born in Selkirk to Raymond and Ethel Freeman in a large tight-knit family of sisters and brothers: Jim, Patty, Ethel Rae, Holly, Corliss, Raymond, Coral and Cheryl. He met and married the love of his life Kathy Whiteway August 7, 1971 and together had two children Carla and Trevor. When he married Kathy he became part of another very large tightknit family from Mathson Island, Manitoba. The family included: Peggy, Freda, Lorraine, Kelly, Bert, Billy, Gail, Wayne, Denise, Lynn, and Sherry. Dad and Mom often spent many summer/winter weekends and holidays at “the Island” with family fishing, swimming, boating, ski-doing, attending dances and poker derby’s.
He was a hardworking dedicated employee for 30+ years at the Selkirk Rolling Mill (Gerdau) who took pride in attending work everyday without fail in all his years there. He was never one to just sit but was always up and about helping friends and family and his daughter with building a fence or table in the garage or helping around the yard (even when his health began to fail). When Dad and Mom took on the large task of renovating their home Dad did many of the construction tasks required for this and he was able to pass on this knowledge to his daughter.
Dad loved camping with his and Mom’s family all over Manitoba, Ontario and the U.S. especially at Hecla Island where the Freeman’s the A’s the B’s and extended family often took up an entire bay with sisters, brother’s and numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed fishing in Selkirk and Lockport with family and friends and would often spend the weekend “at the dock”.
Dad took great pride in his appearance and always worked out and rode his bike everywhere, to work and back daily for many years and even surprised mom one day by calling and telling her he had rode all the way from Selkirk to Winnipeg.
During Dad’s illness, even at its most trying, he never failed to ask how others were doing. He always thanked Mom for her kind loving care. Mom devoted her entire life 24 hours a day to his health and comfort, she was and remains his greatest love, defender and advocate. Percy leaves to forever mourn his passing his wife of 54 years Kathy, his daughter Carla and partner Jane. As per Dad’s wishes there will be no formal service, a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Dad dedicated his entire life to his family and their well-being and happiness, he will be missed always.
