RICHARD (RICK) JOSEPH CHARTRAND
Surrounded by family, on January 23, 2023, Rick passed away peacefully at Health Sciences Centre.
Richard was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on August 31, 1947 to Joseph and Hélène (née De Graeve) Chartrand.
As a young boy with his family, they moved to Winnipeg where he attended Tec Voc. He started working for Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) at the end of grade 11.
He married the love of his life Adele Sharon (née Budge) on December 16, 1967. They moved many times throughout his career with MTS including Brandon, Thompson, and Selkirk; settling on their final homestead in East Selkirk in 1993. Rick retired from MTS in 1999, after 32 years of years of service.
He is predeceased by his mother, Hélène Chartrand, and father, Joseph Lucien Chartrand, and his son, Richard Riki Chartrand.
Rick is remembered by his family, wife of 55 years, Adele, and daughter, Tammy (Larry); his grandchildren Nicole (Matt), Nathan, Riki (Dylan); and great-grandson Weston. He is remembered by his siblings, Yvonne (Bill), Shirley (Wes), Linda (Michael d.), Michel (Brenda), and Kathy (Glen); and his in-laws: Ken (Dody), Lorraine, Eileen d., Gail (Len), David, Randy, Linda, Lucy (Raymond), and Gary (Lorie); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Rick was very proud about his work with MTS and would talk to anyone about it for hours if they had time. Throughout his life, he enjoyed reading, square-dancing, hunting, snowmobiling, quadding, and farming with Joe. He loved tinkering outdoors in the garden, garage, or yard. He would spend many hours keeping in touch with his family and friends. His heartfelt smile and generous personality will be greatly missed.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre, particularly the SICU and MICU.
A private family celebration of life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
