Richard Bertram Lowing (Big Rick)

September 2, 1957 – September 21, 2023

Suddenly on September 21, 2023, Rick passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 66. Rick was predeceased by his mother, Hermina P. Lowing and father, Richard R. Lowing, brother, Efie Lowing, and spouses, Beverly Lowing (nee Reidhert) and Beverly Lowing (nee Thomas), parents-in-law, Alvina Thomas, Rosemarie Rybachuk and James Rybachuk, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Billy Thomas, Bev Thomas, Bobby Thomas, Calvin Thomas, Harry Thomas, Eileen Ritza, Al Ritza, Ken Thomas, Fred Thomas and Ken Sabberton, and special companions, Disco and Nicki.

Rick leaves to mourn his wife, Deborah Lowing, children Jason Lowing (Carly), Steve Lowing (Heather) and Rhonda Regey (Adam), grandchildren, Braedan Regey, Raelynn Regey, and Madelyn Lowing, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends, George, Rugg, Lorne, the Green family and Calvin (Toupee).

Rick was born at the Beausejour Hospital and was raised in Belair, MB. He learned to operate heavy equipment as a teenager and worked at Grand Beach Provincial Park. He eventually moved to Winnipeg where he raised his family. Throughout his life he held several jobs including the shops at CP Rail, truck driving, parts manager, and property managing.

Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting, quading, camping, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. “Being Dad is in honour. Being Papa is priceless.”

Rick was always there to help his family and seemed to know people wherever he went. He was a foundational pillar in his family’s lives and will be forever missed.

A funeral service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB on October 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Honourary pallbearers are Braedon Regey, Adam Regey, Jim Rybachuk, Gary Carson, George Swain, Ruggles Green, Lorne Green, Dylan Thomas and Calvin Monkman (Toupee).

Rick/Dad/Papa/Buddy, our lives are forever changed without you. And it feels like heaven is so far away. And it stings and the world has grown cold now that you’ve gone away.
