Robert leaves behind his mother, Phyllis, his many brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews and his best friend, his dog, Gomez.
Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Faye, his father, Stanley, his brother, Gordon and his sister, Marion.
He will be fondly remembered for his quick-witted sense of humour, his incredible skill and talent to create and fix anything, his charming personality, and the ability to make friends anywhere. He was known to be a great listener, a storyteller, and a giver of wisdom.
In Robert’s lifetime he had many jobs that related to his various interests, but his love of airplanes carried him to Saunders Aircraft, and then later to Air Canada, where he then retired as a sheet metal worker after 24 years.
Robert loved working with the public which led him leaving retirement to work at Canadian Tire in Selkirk for 9 years at the Service Desk and as a Cleaner. He was much loved by his co-workers, and by his customers. People would come by to visit or seek mechanical advice from Robert because he was so knowledgeable. He finally retired for good due to his health.
Robert was always a community minded person and was an active member of the Selkirk Friendship Centre. He volunteered, served on the board, and was President for 17+ years. He was also an active member of Manitoba Associations of Centres.
During his retirement, he volunteered at many schools within Lord Selkirk School Division, and Sunrise School Division. He shared his love of music, building flutes, creating art and storytelling. His ease to interact with the young people and his incredible knowledge will be missed by the schools in our communities.
Robert made many friends and connected to many people. It was rare that someone did not know Robert Loutit. He will be sincerely missed by his large and loving family, his vast network of friends, and his entire community.
A Come & Go - Celebration of Life will be held at 642 River Road, Lockport, MB on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 2:00-4:00pm. Social distancing requirements will be followed.
