Roberta (Bonnie) Magnusson Obituary

Roberta (Bonnie) Mae Magnusson (nee Smorong)

November 19, 1938-September 11, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bonnie Magnusson, aged 82 years, on September 11, 2021 with her family by her side.

With hearts full of love and gratitude, left to cherish Bonnie’s memory are her son Byron, daughters Robyn, Kim (Ian), and Kirstin (Kevin); and her much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Justin (Darilyn), Bobby, Timmy, Ethan, Eric, Jaxon and Kenzie. Also left to mourn her passing are Bonnie’s sisters-in-law Edna, Doreen, Margret and Ruth, brother-in-law Rus, as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bonnie was predeceased by her loving husband Clarence, her parents Bob and Nellie, parents-in-law Fred and Salome, brothers-in-law Tommy, Bill and Tom and most recently by her favourite fishing buddy, her dear brother Eddy.

Born and raised in Elma, Manitoba, Bonnie had nothing but happy memories of her time there. She married Clarence in 1961. Together they raised their family and had countless adventures while living in Ilford, Kenora, Neepawa, Reston and Selkirk. Anywhere they called home, their door was always open to friends and family and rare was the time their home was without music, dancing and laughter. Bonnie had several interests throughout her life and in her younger years loved curling, fishing and was a lifelong gardener. She enjoyed travel and was an avid reader, trivia whiz, card-shark and sports fan. She never missed a Jets or Bombers game and also enjoyed watching curling, golf, tennis and the Olympics.

Bonnie always said that retirement was her favorite job but she enjoyed the many years she worked at the Sharon Home and always felt privileged to have met so many interesting people there. She had a genuine interest in others and was always willing to offer words of wisdom, support and kindness to anyone in need of a sympathetic ear. Often the 'life of the party', her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour were ever present and she never missed a chance to have a laugh or share a perfectly timed one-liner. She cherished time spent with family and her home was the gathering place for holiday dinners and special occasions. She always made sure everyone had their favourite dish and her 15 course family dinners will be hard to replicate!

We are deeply grateful for the love, wisdom, humour, kindness, patience, generosity and support mom provided to us and we will miss her always.

Thank you to the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their professional and compassionate care. Dr. Anita Gray and Dr. Ian Alexander, thank you for your support and guidance during mom’s illness and especially during her final days.
