Ron Preachuk Obituary

RON PREACHUK
After a happy and adventurous 64 years, Ron passed peacefully on May 21st, 2022 with his
wife and daughters by his side.
Born July 29, 1957 in Selkirk, Manitoba to Joseph and Anne. Left to honour his memory are his
wife of 38 years Christine, daughters Amanda (Craig Adolphe), Jessica (Dan Hills), sister Marion
Joyce (Grant Dunfield), brothers Tom (Ursula), Jerry (Mary-Anne), Art (Deb), in-laws Dave and
Mary Manson, sister-in-law Catherine Williamson, and brother-in-law Dale Manson.
Ron grew up on the family farm in St. Andrews with his 4 siblings. He left school at 16 and
worked in a variety of construction jobs before becoming a journeyman Pipe Fitter / Sprinkler
Fitter in 1981. These skills gave him the opportunity to travel and work in Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
Ron and Christine were married in 1984. Ron went back to school to obtain his high school
diploma, and became a Power Engineer in 1989. Christine and Ron built their first home in
Transcona in 1990 where they had their two daughters. Ron began his career at the University
of Manitoba in 1992, from which he was set to retire this August. In 1997 the family moved to
their home in Oakbank where they would spend the next 25 years working along side one
another creating their own slice of paradise. They built a flourishing community in their
neighbourhood and would welcome newcomers to Birch Bay by inviting them to their next
gathering. Ron was always finding new ways to celebrate summer by holding horseshoe and
air hockey tournaments, throwing pool parties and barbecues, and setting off fireworks.
Countless evenings were spent enjoying backyard bonfires under the stars.
He loved his annual trips to Clear Lake, and you could always spot him at the Winnipeg Folk
Festival in his latest tie dye. He caught the travel bug in 1998. Ron and his family went on
countless cruises to most of the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, and the Mediterranean. They also
visited faraway destinations such as Scotland, New Zealand, and South East Asia.
Ron will be fondly remembered for his mischievous sense of humour, his passion for his family,
for travel, for sharing his worldly knowledge, and his love of trivia.
Please join us at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 5 at Cooks Creeks Community Centre, 30026 Zora
