Obituary

Ronald Larry Girling (Ducky)

October 26, 1946 - March 17, 2025

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Larry Girling (78) of East Selkirk, on March 17, 2025. Ron was known to many as “Ducky” a nick name that stayed with him his entire life. Ron was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend.

Ron was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Lena Girling (Tio); brother Kenny Girling; sisters Marilyn Coumont (Gordon) and Irene Gunderson (Don); step father-in-law Leonard Jackson.

Left to go on without him, Debbie Jackson, also son Chris Girling (Erin); two daughters Tracey Girling and Lisa Mowat; brothers Ralph Girling (Colleen), Martin Girling (Deborah), and Anthony Girling; sister Betty Donald (Doug); sister-in-law Audrey Girling; step daughter-in-law Melissa (Greg) of Kenora and their three children, Cooper, Quentin and Makenah; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ron was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Cali, Grayson, Lexie, Carter, Mackenzie, Maya, Hudson, Preston and Aniston. Ron never missed an opportunity to attend a soccer, hockey, volleyball, baseball game or school event. His grandchildren loved spending time with him and will truly miss him.

Ron married Linda (Pawluk) in 1972 and they raised their three children together in Selkirk. Many fun times were spent over the years on road trips and camping. He worked hard at Amsco for 40 plus years as an Electrician and was always willing to help others, Ron wired for many of his family and friends over the years, right up until his death.

Ron loved to curl in his early adult years, later in life watching curling was one of his favorite past times. After retirement, summers were spent doing yard work on his 1.5 acre yard, he took pride in keeping his yard looking like a park.
Ron was passionate about fishing and could be found at the river at every opportunity, casting a rod without a care in the world.

More recently Ron bought an Electric Bike and put on many miles last summer. He could be found riding up town connecting with friends he hadn’t seen in a long time. He loved to ride his bike and only once driving into the ditch. (that we know of).

Ron had many friends, some of which are from childhood, whom he kept in touch with over the years, he always had a smile on his face and simply loved people. He was a kind, fun loving, generous man. Quick to laugh and slow to anger.
Ron leaves a void in everyone’s heart who had the pleasure to know him.

Say not in grief, ‘he is no more ‘ but in thankfulness, ‘ that he was’.
