Ruth Parker
(nee McKay)
1919 – 2019
Peacefully, after a long struggle with dementia and disabilities, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Ruth Parker (wife of the late Arthur) on February 20, 2019 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret and husband Garry Streich and her son Craig and wife Gerri, also by grandchildren Shauna (Michael), Susan (Keith), Darcy (Brandie) and Gillian (Cody); her great grandchildren Lauren, Aidan, Addison, Jaidyn, Kaden, Kai and Bode. She is also survived by her 2 sisters Phyllis McDougall and Eliza Watson from Portage la Prairie and predeceased by several brothers and sisters and in-laws.
She was a long time and faithful member of Charleswood United Church, Charleswood Curling Club and also associated with Eric Coy Arena, and the Charleswood Horticultural and Historical Societies.
She was born and raised on a farm in Portage la Prairie. After Art returned from World War 2, they moved to Charleswood in 1949 where she became very active in the community until recent years. She also was famous for her beautiful knitting and knit 50 sweaters each fall for the Christmas Cheer Board. She loved gardening and being a friend to all!
She loved to curl and did so until she was 88 years of age and, by then, she had also taken up lawn bowling! She loved all sports but especially the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019
at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg.
The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and kindness. A special thank you to Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk.
