Ryan Narynski
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved son, brother, uncle and friend to many. Ryan will be deeply missed by his mother Patricia, his sisters and their children; Heather, Miles; Angela, Eve. Miles would affectionately call him, “Uncle Rhino”. Also grieving are extended family in Winnipeg, Ireland and England. Ryan was predeceased by his Dad, Dennis Narynski in 2019.
Ryan was born in Winnipeg on October 6, 1978 and raised in Selkirk, MB. In his early years, he played with the neighbourhood children and participated in sports in which he excelled. He was an early and avid reader. A highlight for Ryan as a child was a trip to the Selkirk Library on a Saturday afternoon and some money to go next door to Robin’s Donuts. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in the Lord Selkirk School Division.
After high school, Ryan relocated to Victoria, BC, where he worked for a few years before joining The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). He graduated from Basic Training in Quèbec and was posted to Esquimalt, BC. Over the course of his ten years of service, working in Communications , he had multiple deployments around the world, protecting national interests and international security at sea. When asked over the years, why he joined the RCN, he always replied, “ If we want to continue to have a free country, someone has to do this job.” He was honoured to serve and one of his proudest moments was when he was selected to deploy on the HMCS Winnipeg because he was from Selkirk, MB. After his release from RCN, Ryan made Cranbrook, BC his home community because of its similarity to Selkirk. There was no place that he loved greater than Selkirk.
Ryan had the rare ability to make everyone feel important and valued. He was a kind and caring person who listened to others with genuine concern. He was positive, non-judgmental and possessed a keen sense of wit, humour and intelligence. Although Ryan spent his entire adult life in BC, he continued to maintain the Selkirk friends he knew since Kindergarten and that is a testament to his and their steadfast loyalty.
In keeping with Ryan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk, Mb on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. The Mass will be livestreamed and a link will be available here on March 13, 2026.
