Sandra May Poponick (nee Bruzell)
On Sunday, February 24, 2019, Sandra May Poponick (nee Bruzell), loving wife, mother, and Grammy passed away peacefully at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sandy was born on September 20, 1942 in Winnipeg, MB to Ingie and Nelly Bruzell. Sandy moved to Selkirk to become a psychiatric nurse, graduating in 1962 and enjoyed 35 years working at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. On August 1, 1964 she married John Poponick and a few years later built a house in Selkirk where they raised their two sons and a daughter. Sandy was an absolute loving mother, wife and grandmother. She adored her four grandchildren and always had time and hugs galore for them. She loved reading, crosswords, cards and baking. You could always find a cookie or two when you visited. Sandy always had a door open to sit and have coffee or a drink with friends. It was probably one of the things she enjoyed most along with a good joke or story.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father Ingie and her mother Nelly. She is survived by her loving husband John, her sons Chris (Lisa) and Michael (Adele and Tanner) and her daughter Kara(Chad) Lemay. And her four cherished grandchildren, McKyla and Josh Poponick, and Adria and Kenzie Lemay. She also leaves her only brother Chuck (Dale) Bruzell, and her sisters-in-law Juelle (George)
West, Irene (George) Pike and Jean (Barry) Tweed along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Selkirk Regional Health Centre (Palliative Care Unit) and St. Boniface hospital, along with the many doctors, nurses and aides that helped her over the last seven months.
A celebration of life will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Ovarian Cancer Canada, https://ovariancanada.org.
