Sheila Cottingham Obituary

Sheila Pearl Cottingham

Peacefully on Sunday, January 28th, 2024 Sheila passed away at the age of 94 years.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Gregory (Anita) ; daughter, Glenda  (Shane); grandsons,  William (Angela), Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband  Glen in 1995, sisters Carol Klagenberg, Linda Craig, and brother James McRae.

Sheila was born in Selkirk and raised in the Meadowdale district. She graduated from Grade 12 at St. Mary’s Academy in Winnipeg. After completing further training in Business at St. Mary’s she worked as a statistician for the Radio Oil Company in Winnipeg.

She married Glen Cottingham in 1951 and moved to the family farm in Petersfield . Here she functioned as an integral part of the successful seed business ‘Cottingham Seed Farms’, while raising two children. She resided in Petersfield until moving to Selkirk upon their retirement from the seed business

Sheila was a certified Health Care Aide and worked as a Home Care provider; a library clerk at Gimli’s Evergreen Regional Library; and a Program Assistant for 4H.

She enjoyed travelling to horse shows and activities  with her daughter Glenda, and trips to the casino. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed mystery stories and programs on television.

She took great enjoyment in spending time with her grandsons and was an enthusiastic and loving nana, always taking  interest and pride in their accomplishments.

She moved to Gimli Betel Personal Care Home in 2023 due to health challenges. The past year  was spent exploring Gimli and  enjoying its many amenities such as  dining, shopping, and fishing off the dock.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Betel Home in Gimli for the patient and loving care for mom in these past few months.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service and interment will take place at  a later date.
