SOLRUN CHRISTIANSEN (nee BJORNSON)

It is with great sadness that the family of Solrun (Soli) Christiansen announces her passing on November 20, 2021 at the age of 91.

Soli will be lovingly remembered by her children, Donna (Ron) Sawatzky, Valdine (Grant Rodewald), and Calvin (Isabelle Tarte). Soli was Amma to Keith, Richard (Lisa), Kylee, Kirby and Hans and Langamma (great-grandmother) to Cayse Sawatzky. Soli will be missed by her brother Donald (Hedy) Bjornson, sister Margaret Tobin (Nils Lindberg) and her sisters-in-law Runa Bjornson and Nell Bjornson.

Soli was predeceased by her husband Hans Peter Christiansen, her parents and her brothers, Jack and his wife Sveinbjorg Bjornson, Thor and his wife Kristine Bjornson, Siggi and his wife Mary Bjornson, John Bjornson, Franklin Bjornson, and brother-in-law Moe Tobin.

Soli grew up in Arborg, Manitoba. After attending Normal School, she pursued a career in teaching and taught in the Interlake and Dominion City, Manitoba where she met and married Peter Christiansen. Soli retired from teaching in 1977 and then enjoyed 10 years working part-time as a nurses’ aid at the Emerson Hospital. Soli and Peter spent many winters in Yuma where they enjoyed their social activities and the warm sunny weather.

In her later years, Soli started showing signs of the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Soli spent her final years at the Arborg Personal Care Home. The family is grateful to the staff at the care home for excellent care and allowing Soli to live with dignity.

A Funeral Service in her memory will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba. COVID protocols will be taking place. Proof of vaccine and photo identification are required. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Solrun’s memory to the Arborg Personal Care Home or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
