Stanley Wityshyn Obituary

Stanley Wityshyn

August 5, 1938 - May 11, 2023

Peacefully after a brief illness, Stanley Wityshyn of Gimli, Manitoba, passed away with his family by his side.

Stanley was predeceased by his wife Marion, his parents Paul and Hafia Wityshyn, and his siblings Bill Wityshyn, Anne Mudry, and May Sowa.

Left to mourn are his wife Ruth, daughters Janet (Richard), Joanne (Chris), and grandchildren Mya and Ronin. Stan joined Ruth’s family which included children Joanna, John (Whitney), Kathy (Ken), Rob (Mandy) and grandchildren Kennedy, Tristan, Stone, Harper, Anna, and Bobby. He also leaves behind his brothers Steve and John (Olga), his brothers and sisters in-law, Allan, Lois, Jo, Rob, Michael, Veronica, Pat, and many nieces and nephews.

Stan was born in Teulon, MB and grew up in the Polson area on the family farm. This was the original homestead to the Wityshyn Family and he was so proud that he was able to help take the farm to its 100th year homestead anniversary. Stan loved the farm. There was always work to be done and projects on the go. He would have had it no other way.

In 1970, Stan married Marion and they raised their daughters Janet and Joanne in Winnipeg. Stan was able to teach his girls important life lessons such as: the importance of family; how to grow a garden and store carrots and potatoes throughout the winter; how to make home made soup; the joy of a good polka party; how to split and pile wood, use tools and drive a tractor.

Stan was known for always having an interesting project on the go. He was either building something, fixing something, or planning a project for himself or others. If you own a Stashu made loonie bank, napkin holder, leather purse, bird house, ladder golf game, or have been the recipient of home made soup, pickled carrots, or a head of garlic, you knew that Stan cared.

In 2004, Stan moved to Gimli when he married Ruth who made his life brighter. The town of Gimli was good to him, and with his gift of gab he made many friends. Together Stan and Ruth had lots of adventures including trips to the East Coast, Dawson City, Mexico, Hawaii, and Churchill.

Special thanks to the Gimli Hospital staff who made Stan’s stay comfortable and put his family at ease.

Funeral Service will take place on Friday, May 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli with Fr. Buduykevych officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan’s memory to the Polson Cemetery c/o Bob Mac Naughton, Box 95, Inwood, MB R0C 1P0.
