Stefan Jones Obituary

Stefan Allan Jones

Captain Stefan Allan Jones passed away on May 19, 2020 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre on his 83rd birthday in the arms of his loving wife.
Stefan is survived by his wife Eileen (nee McKay) of 60 years; his children Allan (Debbhra), Stefan (Mona), Harold (Lynn) and Kathy (Brent) Mayo; grandchildren Amanda (Dan) Everett, Derek (Mallory), Vanessa, Brittany (Evan) Hamilton, Jennifer Mayo and Cameron; his precious great-grandchildren Zane, Bentley and Rosalie Hamilton; brother Gerald (Maria); nephews Brian and Eric; his in-laws, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Allan (1939) and Lovisa (1964) Jones.
Stefan was born in Selkirk on May 19, 1937 and was raised on Hecla Island and later in Selkirk. He began working on the Keenora at a very young age and this is where he met the love of his life in 1957. They married in 1959 and the rest they say is history. They raised their four children in Selkirk. Stefan worked many years on Lake Winnipeg eventually receiving his captain papers in 1969 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Stefan captained many boats on the lake until 1978 when he want back to school and obtained his power engineering certificate from Red River College. He worked various jobs until his retirement from the Federal Government Customs Canada in 1998.
Stefan had many hobbies but his favourite was watching Kevin Martin curl or listening to Hank Williams while working on puzzles.
Mom and Dad travelled extensively in their younger years from coast to coast in Canada and all throughout the United States. One of the most memorable and disappointing trips was to Los Angeles to see the Boston Bruins play. However, his favourite player Bobby Orr wasn't in the line-up that night.
Dad was a dedicated family man as he named all his children after family members. He would worry about each of us. If anyone was away or on a trip he would not relax until he knew we were home safely.
Mom and Dad got to have the party of their lives when they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last September at the Legion with many relatives and friends in attendance. "Wasn't that a party".
Dad was the smartest man we ever knew. All his children and grandchildren would seek advice on many things and he would have an answer for everything. His best words of wisdom were, "I'll give you some advice but it is up to you what you do with it". We will treasure every moment we got to spend with him and will miss him more than words can say.
We will always love you Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
