Obituary

STELLA ANNIE SEMPOVITCH (née STEFANIUK)

December 3, 1930 - January 25, 2026

With saddened hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Stella Sempovitch. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Bill (Sempy); daughters Judy and June; her parents, Dymetro and Anastasia Stefaniuk; and sister Olga Kulpak.

Baba will be forever remembered by her loving grandchildren: Michael (Lauren) Lamb, Paul Chernhoski (Patricia), Corinne (Derek) Mizak, and Leanne Henry (Jeff); 10 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Stella, Grace, Andrew, Kara, Xavier, Zach, Isabella, AJ, and Haley; her sister Florence; niece Carlotta; nephew Geoff; and many loving nieces and a nephew from the Sempovitch family.

Stella was born in Prud'homme, SK, but as a young lady moved to Gonor, MB, to start a life with her husband Bill "Sempy." As their family was growing, Stella was an active and dedicated member of Holy Trinity Church. She was always busy in the church basement, where she found great joy in cooking for any occasion held there.

At home, she was rarely still as she spent countless hours tending to her beautiful garden full of flowers and an abundance of vegetables. Her home was the heart of the family, as she was always cooking a delicious meal or in her happy place out in the garden.

Stella was a longtime, loyal employee at the Safeway in Selkirk, where she worked until her retirement in 1994. She worked hard, but she also knew how to enjoy life's adventures. Stella loved spending her winters in Hawaii, where many friends and family would gather to create lasting memories. She also loved trips to the casino—especially if it meant she made enough money to go back to Hawaii. Even later in life, she was able to have some wonderful times at the casino right up until her 95th birthday.

Baba loved her grandchildren dearly and her great-grandchildren even more. All she ever wanted for all of us was to be kind, happy, and have a wonderful life. She was so proud of each and every one of us. I hope we do you proud, Baba!

Now you are reunited with Gigi and your girls, Judy and June, as well as all the other family and friends before you. You are at peace, but we will miss you every day.

Aloha, Baba.
