Ted Barry Longbottom
May 2, 1963 – Aug, 28, 2025
It is with profound sorrow that we grieve the untimely passing of our son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Ted was born in St. Boniface and raised in Scanterbury, Manitoba where he recently resided.
Artistically gifted from a young age, he later realized a calling as a songwriter, performer, storyteller, and mentor. His artistic legacy resonates across communities in Manitoba, Canada and beyond. He inspired new generations of Indigenous artists through his work with school children, instilling cultural pride, history, and a sense of belonging.
Ted’s work has been featured on CBC, The Discovery Channel, PBS, The History Channel, and APTN. He was a frequent performer at festivals across Turtle Island and collaborated with many renowned artistic contemporaries.
Ted was also a very gifted visual artist, dabbling in mediums such as pen and ink drawings, painting, comic art, and more recently AI creations. He gifted anyone who visited an original artwork often personalizing these to feature a family member or friend he recently was inspired to draw.
Ted became a friend for life to the many who had the privilege of knowing him. He was the focal point of any family gathering, as everyone gravitated to his jovial ambiance, which uplifted everyone in his orbit. He was a gracious and generous host whenever anyone came to visit, a true raconteur who always had an embellished story to relay of something he had heard or observed. Visits were always accompanied by a homemade meal or snack created with lots of love.
Ted is survived by his parents Ed and Clarice, his brother Tim (Colleen), sister Tracey, and was a kind and loving uncle to Will, Akomaye (Honoka), Ellie, Jordy, Lindsey, and Chad.
A celebration of life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk on Sept 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed via the following link: https://youtube.com/live/D_v6svnezpQ?feature=share
