THELMA DOREEN McDOUGALL

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Thelma, at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, June 17th at the age of 97 years.

Thelma was born on June 28, 1928 in Homewood, MB and spent her early years on the farm. She later moved to Winnipeg and worked at Rick and Rice knitting factories before marrying Russ McDougall in 1954.   Russ brought three children into the marriage, followed by another seven.

Her greatest association was as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served in several capacities for over 50 years. She also worked at the Selkirk General Hospital for over 20 years where she brought humour and compassion to her patients who adored her.

Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Jenny and Frederick Nelson; her sisters, Vera, Winnie, Beatrice, Jean and her brother, Wilfred; her son, Donald and her stepdaughter, Rosemary Taverner and her son-in-law Gilbert Belanger.   She is survived by her children Cheryl McDougall, Richard McDougall, Norma McDougall, Alice McDougall, Beverly Belanger, Duncan McDougall (Janis), Suzanna Kalman (John) and Joanne Hawkins (Jim).

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and16 great-grandchildren.

Thelma was a terrific strength to her family and community and will be greatly missed by all. Rest in peace Mom – we love you.

A private family memorial service will be held in the future.
