Thorun (Thora) Magnusson Ertl
My cherished, beloved mother Thorun (Thora) Magnusson Ertl passed away on June 8, 2019, shortly before her 91st birthday.
Thora was predeceased by her parents, Grimur and Lara (Bergman) Magnusson, her husband Henry, and her son, Lorne. She is survived by her son, Craig, and her brothers, John (Anne) and Steini.
Thora was born on June 17, 1928 in the Geysir district of Manitoba. In her early twenties she moved to B.C., where she met her future husband, Henry. Thora moved to Manitoba again, with Henry and their son Lorne, in 1958.
Thora was a wonderful mother to her two sons and a devoted wife to her husband. Thora was very fond of the card game Rummoli, which she enjoyed playing with her sons and husband. She also liked to cook. Other interests included reading, sewing, and she liked to keep a nice, clean house.
Thora learned to speak Icelandic as her first language, as did her brothers. They did not learn to speak English until they began school. Thora was fond of coffee, as many people of Icelandic descent are, and she was proud of her Icelandic heritage.
Thora will live on in the heart and memory of her surviving son, Craig.
Thank you to the home care workers who helped my mother in her final days at home. Thank you also to the doctors and nurses at the Selkirk Hospital who did their best for Thora.
If so desired, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or to a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
