Obituary

VAUGHAN VALGARDSON

March 17, 1947 – March 23, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Allan Vaughan Valgardson.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Connie, his three daughters, whom he adored:  Anjie Valgardson; Kirsten Valgardson (Trevor Tilbury); and Maren Gnall (John).  He also leaves behind his six grandchildren:  Conner Valgardson-Masson; Collin Valgardson-Masson; Cameron Parisien (Breanna Sewell); Rianna Parisien (Bryce Plett); Eric Gnall and Jamie Gnall.  They were the light of his life and a source of immense pride for him.  He also leaves behind his two sisters:  Barbie Long (Calgary) and Marlene Valgardson (Edmonton) and his faithful dog, Freya.

Vaughan was raised in Winnipeg, but lived for many years in Ottawa, Calgary, Winnipeg again, and finally in Gimli, Manitoba.  He had an enduring love of music and played for many years in a country band, Mackenzie Delta, in Ottawa where he made many lasting friendships, as well as singing tenor with the Orpheus Choral Society in Ottawa.  He loved to sing and write music and entertain others and would happily share his talent with any who loved to listen to his incredible voice.  His unwavering kindness, generosity and empathy towards his family, friends and strangers alike were unmatched and will always be a part of his lasting legacy.

His family would like to thank the staff of the Gimli Community Health Centre, the Selkirk Regional Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for all the care and compassion they provided to him before his passing.

Cremation has occurred and his ashes will be interred in the Gimli Community Cemetery on July 13, 2025 at 1:00 with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Gimli.

Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 182, P.O. Box 29, Gimli, MB R0C1B0 or the charity of your choice are gratefully accepted.
