In Loving Memory of
Vethanayagam Sam Christy Raviraj

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vethanayagam Sam Christy Raviraj, on June 21, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Sam was the beloved son of Rita Vethanayagam and the late Rayappu Vethanayagam. He received his education at St. Patrick’s College in Jaffna, where he formed many lifelong friendships and built the foundation for a life marked by resilience, kindness, and dedication.

Sam was a cherished brother to Emma, Roy Thilakraj, Edwin Manoraj, Yalini, and Einstein Barathyraj. He was also a beloved brother-in-law to Raymond, Sathishkumar, Viveka, and Kishanthani and a loving nephew to Stanny and Chandra.

He will be forever remembered by his nieces and nephews: Chendhalan, Minnila, Jeevika, Mahilavan, Nilavan, Natchathira, and Oli, along with many other extended family members and friends.

Sam will also be deeply missed by his honourary family here in Winnipeg. Caregiver Terry Porth along with his children Rick (Carla) and Sue, grandchildren Sam (Blaine), Letesha (Greg), Kaylee and Brandon. As well as great grandchildren Hadlee, Ryker and Callyn. All of whom have shared many happy, loving memories with Sam over the last 16 years. We will forever be grateful to the New Directions program for bringing Sam into our lives.

Sam’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his family, the friendships he nurtured, and the lasting memories he created. Though he is no longer with us in person, his spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

A private family service will take place.
