On November 1, 2025, Victor Dann peacefully passed away at the age of 84. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Christine (Thorlakson); his children Heather, Alan (Kirsten), Elaine (Dennis), Susan (Dean) and Russel (Kristen); his grandchildren Aarica (Perry), Tyler, Emily (Andrew), Owen, Tommy (Nicole), Mikayla, Luke, Damien, Ethan, Arabella (Mathew), Riley (Bailey); and great grandchildren Lachlyn, Mason and Sutton.
He is predeceased by his sister Irene, remembered by his sister-in-laws Marlene, Margaret and Hazel and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by brother-in-laws Ben, Bruce and Emil
Victor loved his wife and family above all else. He also loved farming and gardening. As dementia took hold of Victor, his top concerns always remained his wife, children and the farm. He would consistently ask if Christine was OK. Did she have what she needed. Is the house OK. It is a cruel twist of fate this man who never forgot a face or name later battled dementia.
Throughout his life he worked in many roles; construction, security guard, chauffer/transport driver and waterworks engineer. He retired as a groundskeeper at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre in February 2003 after 20 years of employment with the Manitoba Government. He then worked alongside his son Alan and granddaughter Aarica for a number of years on the garbage truck.
As a young man Victor enjoyed curling and later cheering on his children and grandchildren in whatever sport they played. He and Christine found enjoyment watching the Jets and Blue Jays games together. He also watched CFL football on weekends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Gimli Betel. No words can express the gratitude we have as each of you treated Dad with compassion, dignity and respect. In addition, the empathy you extended to the family during a very difficult time has been greatly appreciated.
Service will be held November 17, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Gimli Lutheran Church followed by a lunch at Minerva Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you consider a donation to one of the following organizations; Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, Diabetes Canada, Kidney Foundation of Canada or Minerva Hall in Dad’s memory.
