Obituary

It is with joy and sadness we announce the passing of our mom, grandma and great-grandma Virginia Barbara Coumont on April 25, 2023 in the comfort of her home with her daughter by her side holding her tight. The joy we have from this day, mom is pain free and reunited with dad and her beloved Grace.

Mom was born on November 15, 1937 to John and Rose Lamb. December 1951, at the age of 14 mom’s dad was tragically killed in a car accident. October, 1953 mom was blessed with a step-dad Walter Kulchyski. Mom lived in Manitoba most of her life and had two sisters and two brothers.

In 1962, Mom and Dad (Alfred Coumont) entered a courtship and they were wed on February 09, 1963.

Mom’s early years she was a Hairdresser and worked in Housekeeping at the Old Selkirk General Hospital. Mom then operated a Day Care out of her home, which fulfilled her heart greatly. Many children were loved to the moon and back. Each child calling her Auntie Virgie and our dad Uncle Alfie.

Mom was an amazing cook, to list a few favorites were mashed potatoes, meatballs, cabbage rolls, pancakes, borscht and chicken breast.

Mom enjoyed Bingo and the Casino which she made an endless amount of friends. Mom loved all types of gatherings (as long as they were not on a bingo night). Once mom knew a gathering was to take place, out came a pen and paper and a menu list completed. Mom had an amazing sense of humor. She loved to prank/scare people, from hiding in weird spaces, wearing halloween masks or a rubber creature of some kind.

Mom will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Brenda (Tim), sons Perry (Dana) and Robert (Lorraine); grandchildren Scott (Jordyn), Ashley, Alyssa, Cale (Emily), Cheyenne and Ryan; great-granddaughter Rayne; sister Pat (Mick) brother Bill (Lorraine) and sister-in-law Shirley. Mom also leaves to cherish her memory, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Alfred, Mom, Dad(s), sister Lois (Brian) and brother Brian. When mom married dad she gained a combined total of 28 brother/sister-in-laws. Mom was the last of this generation.

We the family would like to thank Dr. Speer for her constant care for our mom, Rexall Drugs, Selkirk and Pine Falls Home Care team; Nurses Lisa, Janis and Laura, IERHA.  Most of all, mom’s two angels, Mary and Janelle. You ladies went above and beyond to keep mom happy and safe.

As per mom’s wishes, there will be no service.  Cremation has taken place and a private family service to be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

Mom, to sum it up you were amazing. Rest easy, your job is done.  Hardworking hands at rest.
