Obituary

Walter A. (Siggy) Sigurdson

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Walter A. (Siggy) Sigurdson on March 16th 2025 at the age of 95, after a sudden illness.

Walter was predeceased by his wife Margret (2013), daughter Ingrid (2008), son Brian (2015) and daughter-in-law Vera (2013).

He is survived by his son Stephen (Kellie), granddaughters Adair and November (Adam) and great-granddaughter Gunnar, great-grandson Brody , sister Mabel and many nieces and nephews.

Walter was born on January 17th, 1930 in Riverton, Mb and grew up in Gimli with his parents and sister. It was here that he met his future wife Margret, who he married during the height of the 1950 flood in Manitoba.

Walter spent over 50 years driving across Canada doing long haul moving, he started his trucking career in Gimli before moving his young family to Winnipeg in 1966 and settling in the west end. He fondly told us the stories of the road and the people he would meet along his journeys.  Even though he retired from driving he was always there when they called him for help.  The last years of Dad’s life he took up small engine repair and started fixing up the neighborhood lawn mowers, but I think it was more for the people who would sit in his garage with him sharing laughs, stories, beers and talking about the Jets and the Bombers.

His daily phone calls are going to be missed by all.

Keep Heaven's Highways Moving Dad, we love you.

Cremation will be taking place and a graveside service will be held at a later date.

Thank you to the Dr.’s and Nurses at Selkirk Hospital for their care of Dad in his last days.
