Wenzel Preun Obituary

Wenzel Preun

After a faith-filled, farming family life, Wenzel passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29th, 2022. We are grateful for the wonderful final moments we shared together as family, visiting, praying and singing with him.

In 1953, Wenzel left his family and homeland of Germany to come to Canada to build a new life. There he met his schatzi (sweetheart) Marlen.

His steady and strong work ethic was apparent in his farming life; he loved it, was passionate about it, and strove for excellence in all he did and in what he was asked to do like his involvement in the International Agricultural Exchange Association and on the farming mediation board.

His welcoming and generous personality endeared him to all who knew him. He loved his community, and loved celebrations, making them special for all.

His dedication in living out his faith, whether in church, with community, on the tractor, or taking his long walks in Selkirk Park, is an example and inspiration to us all. He showed us how to forgive and let go, and gave us a solid foundation to continue to build our faith. Many rosaries lie buried in the fields - he lost them!

To us, he was our Grandpa, Opa and Papa. He loved spending time with his many grandchildren (27) and great-grandchildren (17; and more on the way!). Marlen, his children and their families, Heidi Peters (Horst), Hugo (Cheryl), Wenzel who passed before him (Kim), John (Donnalyn), Fred (Joylene), Bernadette, Hubert (Sherri), Eileen Dalprá (Antonio who passed before him) and Michelle Lacoursiere (Paul) will miss him immeasurably, but are so grateful that he is with Mother Mary and God, and those who have passed before him.

Many thanks to all of you who have embraced him, and opened your hearts and lives to him. Thank you all for your love and support especially, Dr. Thiessen and the staff of the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Prayers will be said on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. Memorial Mass was held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, Little Britain, MB with Fr. Gerald Langevin officiating.
