Wesley Edmund Sewell Obituary
Wesley Edmund Sewell
Wesley Edmund Sewell, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, laughter.
Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Gaylia, his partner of 58 years; his parents, Burt and Ellen Sewell, his sister Carrol Longmuir, his son-in-law Douglas Cox and his faithful cat, Zip.
Dad is lovingly remembered by us, his four children, Brian (Val), Cathy, Joanne and Carrol (Jamie), his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dad is also remembered by his brothers-in-law Neil Longmuir, Allan Watts (Andrew, Wendy and Abby) and Carl Watts.
Dad dedicated 38 years of service to the Manitoba Telephone System before enjoying 31 active years of retirement. Dad pursued many passions and hobbies throughout his life, especially target shooting, where he served as range officer and competed in numerous competitions earning hundreds of awards. He also enjoyed golfing and photography. Dad was always ready to lend a hand and he volunteered for numerous organizations throughout his life and was a member of the Gordon Howard Seniors Center for a number of years.
An avid reader of all genres, he especially loved reading westerns, Louis L'Amour being his favourite author. In the later years when tired eyes made reading more difficult, he happily switched to his word search puzzles to keep an active brain. Dad and Carrol (and husband Jamie) enjoyed playing cribbage together and kept track of the wins, week-to-week, along with all the trash-talk that came with the wins and losses.
Dad loved food. Home cooked meals, meals with family, or at a restaurant, food made him happy, especially anything on a bone that he could take for leftovers the following day. Dad treasured his time with his best friend Jim Petrie as well as Gord Fedora and his brother-in-law Neil when they would either meet for a simple coffee or drive into the city for a Chinese buffet!
Dad had a great sense of humour and was always ready for a quip to try to get a laugh. His family and friends will deeply miss him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Badenhorst and his receptionist Val, to the Seven Oaks Hospital Renal Clinic for their years of care and compassion, and most recently the staff at the Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Manitoba for their kindness and support.
At Dad's request there will be no funeral, just a small family service, after which he will be interred beside his wife Gaylia and cat Zip at St Clement's cemetery.
