William Earl Starr
It is with profound sadness that the family of William Earl Starr announces our awareness of his passing on November 26, 2025. Born on February 12, 1956, Earl graced our lives for 69 memorable years.
Earl will be lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Alice Fidler, and his siblings Jo-Anne, Barry, Marilyn (Mel), Robert, Yvonne, Gerald, and Richard (Sue). He also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Earl was predeceased by his father, William, and his beloved sisters, Sharon and Christine.
After graduating high school, Earl embarked on a dedicated 33-year career at Manitoba Rolling Mills, where he worked with unwavering commitment until his retirement in 2009. In his younger years, Earl embraced life with enthusiasm, enjoying tennis and engaging passionately in chess matches.
A familiar and friendly face in Selkirk, Earl could often be seen walking through town, running errands, shopping, or riding his bicycle. As his mobility changed in later years, he greatly appreciated the support of his friend, Dickie, who frequently drove him on outings.
An outdoorsman at heart, Earl treasured hunting and trapping alongside his father and brother, Barry—activities he relished until he was no longer able to participate. His appreciation for life’s finer details was evident in his love for fine clothing, shoes, and accessories. Earl was also passionate about music, movies, and astronomy, often spending nights gazing at the stars through his cherished telescope.
Though he had no children of his own, Earl held a special fondness for his nieces and nephews, always ready with a treat or a few dollars to brighten their day. His quick wit and sense of humour will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service to honour Earl’s life will be held on December 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, Manitoba.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, the RCMP, and his building caretaker Brian for their invaluable support during this difficult time.
Forever in our hearts, Earl’s memory will continue to shine as brightly as the stars he so loved to observe.
