Bill Badiuk, loving husband, brother, brother-in-law, father, uncle, Gido, Great-Gido, and friend, died June 4, 2026, after a brief illness. 

Bill loved children. This love led him to a career in teaching and school administration. He began his career in small rural communities in Manitoba. Most of his career was spent with the Winnipeg 1 School Division. After retiring from Winnipeg 1, he fulfilled his dream of finishing his career in northern Manitoba with the Frontier School Division in the communities of Berens River and Brochet. Bill and Helen formed lasting friendships wherever his career took them. 

After retiring from Brochet, Bill and Helen moved to their cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park. Bill vowed to spend time outdoors after retiring, and he kept that vow by mowing the grass, gathering firewood, clearing the driveway, and feeding his birds and deer. He was also the unofficial mayor of Grindstone, going on his daily walks, meeting people, observing the comings and goings, and discussing current events relevant to the park (or not!).

Bill enjoyed community as a member of the Riverton Elks, the local church, the Westshore Singers, and the Back Pew Boys. He loved singing and could often be heard singing as he puttered around the house.

Bill and Helen later moved to the Petersfield area, and Bill continued to play outside, with more grass to cut, a longer driveway to clear, and a John Deere tractor to ride. He also enjoyed the many dogs in his life. He often said, “They are good dogs,” regardless of the mischief they got into. He loved them, and they loved him. 

Bill had a wonderful sense of humour and wit. He was an avid reader, especially of history and politics. He often came home from the thrift store with “just a few more books.”

Bill made a difference in both his career and his life. He was loved by many, and his passing has left many heavy hearts.

The family would like to thank the staff of Emergency and Medicine 1 at Selkirk Regional Hospital and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care.

Bill chose immediate cremation, and there will be no formal service. Bill supported many good causes. Donations in his memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
