Obituary

William “Billy” Ernest Bell

December 26, 1929 – December 1, 2024

Peacefully in his home, with family by his side, our beloved father, afi, great afi, great-great afi, uncle, and friend, Billy Bell, passed away at the age of 94. He is deeply missed by his daughters Debbie and Roxy (Art); daughter-in-law Nadine; grandchildren Gerald (Rachelle), Bobby (Crystal), Kerry, Cody (Dale), Jessie (Kris), Kyra (Riley), Amanda, Adam (Stefanie); great-grandchildren Justyn (Ashlan), Caitlin, Devon (Ryley), Ethan (Cassidy), Nikolas (Jordyn), Izzy, Liberty, Jono, Robbie, Mikayla (Mason), Skye, Faith, Gaia, Link, Annalia, and Vienna; great-great-grandson Elijah; sisters-in-law Louella and Bonnie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Billy was born and raised on Hecla Island, one of 12 brothers and sisters. He was an avid fisherman and always had a knack for fixing things. Never one to venture too far from home, Billy met the love of his life, Carol, in 1952 just on the other side of the ferry. It was love at first sight, and the two were married in January of the following year, eventually moving to Selkirk to start their family. Family was a hallmark of their life, and they loved being grandparents, frequently taking their grandchildren on all sorts of adventures.

Throughout his life, Billy was always hardworking, but the job he enjoyed most was working in maintenance with the Town of Selkirk. Through that job, Billy became a well-known figure in the town and was relied upon throughout the community as the “Jack of all Trades.” Even after his retirement, Billy was never idle, continuing to fix things for his neighbors and shovel driveways well into his 80s. He could always be relied upon by anyone who knew him.

Billy was predeceased by his wife Carol, his son Craig, sons-in-law Joey and Charles, his parents William and Lovisa, and his many brothers and sisters.

As per Billy’s wishes, no formal service will take place. An informal gathering will be held to celebrate his life in 2025.

In lieu of flowers, raise a glass to celebrate Billy, a life well lived and much loved.
