Following a brief illness, Brian passed away on September 8, 2017 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Brian was predeceased by parents George and Grace Gilhuly, his dear aunt, Bess Macintosh, aunt Mary Sutherland (George), uncle Don Macintosh (Gert). He is survived by cousins Rosemary Nowicki of Vancouver, BC., Wanda Nowicki of Gibsons, BC, Terri Shaw of Nanton, AB, George Macintosh of Red Deer, AB and Doug Macintosh of Arnes, MB, as well as numerous friends.

Born, raised and educated in Selkirk, Brian received his CA from U of M in 1966. A career as a CA was enjoyed with McDonald Currie, followed by a lengthy profession with CoopersLybrand and then the amalgamation of PricewaterhouseCoopers until his retirement in 2001.

Brian enjoyed many years in league bowling, curling and golfing. Brian took up the game of golf at age 14 and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership at Selkirk Golf & Country Club 2004. He was honored by the Province of Manitoba with an Order of Sport Excellence for 25 Years of dedicated service to Amateur Golf. In 2010 Brian received the highest award accorded by Golf MB, the “Distinguished Service Award”. His long association with Golf MB began in 1986 as Selkirk representative, then served on Board of Directors from 1989. He served as Finance Chair from 1990 to 2005 and was a Course Rater from 1991 to his final days on a course in July. Brian was also an avid Blue Bomber fan being a season ticket holder for 65 years.

Following his retirement, Brian enjoyed many winters in Florida where he continued his passion for golf.

Brian will always be remembered for his commitment to his community, his years in Knox Church choir, and for his loyalty to his family and friends. Brian volunteered at various sporting events throughout the community, being the ultimate Treasurer for each event.

Special thanks are extended to Drs. Kevin Coates, Ali Khan, Prematilake, the Staff of Victoria Hospital Surgical Ward, Melanie Bernas, Palliative Care Coordinator for IERHA and Palliative Care Staff of Selkirk Regional Health Centre. Your kindness, care and compassion will always be remembered by friends and family. Many thanks to everyone who visited Brian while in hospital and have offered their assistance in anyway.

Interment of ashes will take place on Friday, Sept. 29 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clements Cemetery, 1178 River Road, followed by a Celebration of Life at Selkirk Golf & Country Club from 1:30 to 3:30 with tributes at 2:00 p.m.

Donations to honour Brian’s memory may be made to Palliative Care Fund at Selkirk & District Community Foundation, 200 Eaton Avenue, Selkirk MB R1A 0W6.
